1976
The Lancer 1600 GSR show its reputation for reliability is fully deserved by filling the top three finishing sports in the punishing Safari Rally.
1982
The Lancer EX2000 Turbo was one of the first turbocharged rally cars, proving its speed and durability by finishing 3rd on the 1982 1000 lakes Rally behind four wheel drive competition.
1988
The move to Group A regulations saw Mitsubishi introduce their first 4WD competition car, the Galant VR4, which would set the template for the Lancer Evolution.
1992
The legend makes its debut. The Lancer Evolution, with its potent combination of four wheel drive and turbocharged engine, is immediately competitive.
1996
Tommin Makinen and the unstoppable Lancer Evolution III romp to the World Drives title, winning five of the nine rounds on the way. He winds the next three drivers' titles as well.
1998
A clean sweep makes Makinene Champion for the third time, and Mitsubishi taking the Manufacturer's Championship, winning seven out of 13 rallies with the Lancer Evolution IV and V.
2003
Mitsubishi does not enter a factory team in the WRC, but the Lancer Evolution remains the dominant force in 'showroom' categories, winning races and championships across the world.
